Innovative pigeon control for the Adidas building at Zeil 105 in Frankfurt
Opposite the Zeilgalerie shopping center, the office building at Zeil 105 has been spectacularly revitalized by Stadler Interior Services. The Adidas building received a cantilevered, energy-efficient glass facade, protected from pigeon droppings by integrated Ornigard sound pressure devices. It couldn't be more discreet! The client wanted a virtually invisible pigeon deterrent for the new facade.
Problem: Many pigeons reside year-round on Frankfurt's popular pedestrian street, the "Zeil," as they can always find food there. Even before the renovation, the office building opposite the Zeilgalerie shopping center struggled with pigeons and their droppings.
The striking new glass facade, with its window frames and narrow niches, offered ideal perching opportunities for pigeons. This should have been taken into account during the planning phase. Pigeon droppings would be particularly bothersome on the glass facade and the black frames. The client desired a modern and, if possible, unobtrusive bird deterrent that would not detract from the building's distinctive aesthetic.
Solution: The Ornigard sound pressure devices were recessed into the facade, except for the neck and the resonator head (right image). The device that protects the roof edge and the first frame edge at the top could be implemented in the standard version, as it was not visible from below.
The installation of the built-in appliances was precisely coordinated with the companies involved.
It could only take place after the frames had been installed, but not yet the glass panes.
The power supply to the built-in baskets of the Ornigard devices had already been laid behind the stone facade.
The resonators swivel across their programmed working area with a slow rotation. They are only 80 mm in diameter, anti-reflective, and virtually invisible from below against the sky.
Conclusion: The client and the executing company, Stadler Interior Services GmbH, are very satisfied with the pigeon deterrent integrated into the facade. The roof and facade are free of pigeons and pigeon droppings.
